A lot depends on what preceded the onset of these symptoms. It may be related to overuse, strain or even a slight injury and the inflammation is persisting due to daily use. Immobilizing the area may help. However there are are other causes like an infection or even an autoimmune condition that needs to be ruled out. You should see an orthopedist (orthopedic specialist) who may conduct a CT or MRI. This may be able to detect features that are not easily visible on an x-ray.
