Dryness of the nasal passages may occur with changes in environment and lead to to bleeding that can drain into the back of the mouth and pass out with the saliva. This is probably what your doctor means. Throat infections that are more common in the winter months may also cause slight bleeding. Any dental problem, that may also be involving the gums, could also account for bleeding in the mouth. If you find that you also have a sore throat when you wake up in the morning, it is possible that acid reflux at night is further injuring the back of your throat. Then there are more serious causes like mouth cancer (oral cavity cancer). As you will see in this article, there are many possible causes –

Only your doctor can conclusively identifying the cause after examining the area, running tests if necessary and considering your medical history. Without knowing the exact cause, we cannot advise on any treatment options. If you are not satisfied with the attention you have received from your doctor, then you should seek a second opinion or consult with an ENT specialist (ear-nose-throat).
