Scientist found the level of pollution exposure of mother, especially in first and last trimester, is directly proportional to the birth weight of the baby

The data of 336,000 babies showed the trend, which were born in the New Jersey in the period of 1999 to 2003. More research is needed to explain the connection.

Researchers also analyzed the complete history of the mother on the basis of factors such as smoking, marital status, race, education, and the place where they spent their gestation period.

Researcher noted the level of pollution in the surrounding area in the all three trimester of pregnancy. They found the mothers of underweight babies were relatively younger, less educated, smoker or African-American.

But above all of these factors pollutants suspended in the air limit the foetal growth in the womb. The two pollutants, micro sooty particles and nitrogen dioxide emitted in the car smoke, were found guilty for inhibiting the feotal growth in the womb.

Even with the fractional increase of nitrogen dioxide in the air, in which mother breath, can increase the risk of low birth weight baby.

“These findings suggest that car’s smoke can affect the fetal growth and those pregnant women who live near to the roadway are on greater risk,” lead researcher Professor David Rich said.

Optimistic people live longer and healthier than the pessimistic people U.S. researchers founded.

Researchers analyzed the death ratio and chronic diseases in more than hundred thousand women aged above 50.

Researchers founded, women with good expectations and positive attitude towards life were 14 percent less apt to die from any disease than pessimistic people and have 30 percent reduced risk of heart diseases after the follow up of eight years.

The frequency of diseases or habits like hypertension, diabetes or smoking was also less common in the happy folks.

Researchers also compared the women with suspicious vision about others in the group called cynically hostile with the innocent and trusted women.

“The women of hostile group showed the distrust on the other people for the sake of safety. These findings showed a general suspicion of the people,” led researcher, Dr. Hilary Tindle said.

The death rate in cynically hostile women was 16 percent higher than the non-cynically hostile women during the study. The probability of death due to cancer was 23 percent more in such type of women.

This specific study doesn’t prove any worse health effect of pessimism or negative attitude but the researchers believe that gull thoughts, some how, affect the health.

“More research is needed to develop therapies which focus on bringing modification in people’s attitude and if that modifications provide any health benefits,” researchers said.

Teen age is one of the most important phases of life in many respects. Most of the human habits develop in this age, and most of the physical changes occur in the same period. It means that this phase of life is important for a human, for both, mental and physical growth.

Coming out of childhood, stepping into adolescence, is a period containing a lot of mysteries for a young child. He is unaware of many a things, and is anxious for trying them out resulting in a number of diseases and mishaps. These diseases range from car accidents, pregnancy complications, sexually transmitted diseases, to cancer and other various health problems linked to smoking, alcohol and other kinds of addictions e.t.c.

The knowledge about different queries that arise in the mind of an adolescent is a must to be given. A doctor can be the best guide to provide the knowledge about his future health concerns. Dr. Frank Biro, participant of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s adolescent medicine program, said, “They are quite literally our future. If we don’t take good care of them, there’s a strong likelihood when they are running the ship they’re not going to have a good time running the ship.”

But sadly enough, there are not enough doctors trained for adolescent care. From 1996 to 2005, only a few doctors took such training.

According to a report, 10 to 20 percent of the teenagers become mentally ill each year, confronting depression and anxiety, go without seeking treatment. An air of trust between a doctor and a patient is must, and a teenager specially, as it will encourage him to go for counseling and preventing himself from the upcoming health threats.

The study, published in the l Journal of the American Medical Association. 17 Dec. issue, reveals that smokers have almost 18% higher risk of getting that cancer and 25% increased risk of death from the disease.

Edoardo Botteri, the lead author of the study, says: “There is a significant link between smoking and the occurrence of colorectal cancer and related deaths.”

“Smokers must keep in mind that it not only increases their risk of developing the cancers of the organs that have direct tobacco exposure including lungs, larynx and digestive tract of upper area, but it also increases the risk of developing cancers in those organs that don’t have a direct tobacco contact like kidney, bladder, pancreas, rectum and colon,” he added.

To find a link between smoking and colorectal cancer, the researchers examined the data received from 106 reviewed studies that had different number of participants ranging from few hundred to 1 million.

Looking at the collective risk, the researchers found that smokers had an 18% increase risk of developing colorectal cancer.

High blood pressure (quite well-known as a silent killer) is considered as one the biggest risk factors for heart disease and if you are conscious about their heart health, you definitely need to keep your blood pressure under control.

Proper medication is, undoubtedly, a great help, but there are some other ways that can be very handy to keep your blood pressure under control that include:

Smoking is injurious to your overall health and blood pressure is no exception, so avoid doing that.

Make your diet rich with vegetables and fruits

Caffeine and alcohol (if used excessively) can cause high blood pressure, so reduce their intake.

Your diet should contain least amount of sodium and fats.

Regular exercise can help you a lot to keep blood pressure under control

Don’t allow excessive weight to rule on your body

And don’t allow stress to rule on your life. Some relaxation techniques can do a lot in this connection.

Does your throat hurt? If you have a sore throat, no one has to tell you that you don’t feel good. You are probably rubbing the outside of your throat and swallowing kind of hard. You may even feel a little feverish or just plain tired. Sore throats are truly no fun. Fortunately, they don’t last very long and are very treatable.

A sore throat can be caused by either a viral or bacterial infection. A sore throat is most commonly caused by a cold, which is a viral infection. Other viral infection causes include laryngitis and mononucleosis. A bacterial infection that causes a sore throat might be strep throat or tonsillitis. Each of these has other symptoms that may help you and your physician determine if you have that particular infection.

Sore throats can also be caused by many things that are considered irritants.

Air pollution can play a part in your coming down with a sore throat.

Allergies can cause a sore throat too. So can low humidity.

Yelling may also be the cause of your sore throat.

Smoking is also known to cause a sore throat.

Postnasal drip can also cause a sort throat.

Stomach acid that comes up into your throat (which may also be a symptom of GERD) can cause a sore throat.

The treatment of your sore throat will naturally depend on the source from which it originates. A viral sore throat will not respond to antibiotics and it may expose you to antibiotic side effects. A sore throat that involves an irritant will most likely involve you removing the source of the irritant (smoking, pollution, stop yelling) and also soothing your throat for several days or a week until you feel better. Talk to your physician about your sore throat to help determine the source for the best course of treatment.

One of the best natural remedies for your sore throat is to permit your body to rest. When your body is sick it is sending you a message to slow down and to take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself for a day or two may help your sore throat feel much better.

Gargling warm salt water can also be helpful for your sore throat. Add a half teaspoon to one cup of warm water. Do this about every four hours.

Drink lots of hot (warm) liquids to soothe your throat. Tea or soup are excellent choices. Stay away from caffeinated beverages as these may keep you awake and prevent you from getting the rest that you truly need at this time. Ask a friend or family member to pick up several types of teas (caffeine free!) that sound delicious and just keep drinking them. Remember to make sure the liquids are comfortably warm and not hot so they could burn your throat.

It is important to consider consulting your physician when you have a sore throat, because a sore throat can be a sign of another illness — as mentioned above. Be sure to keep in mind every other symptom that you have had recently while including your sore throat to help properly diagnose your possible illness or infection.

Rest and lots of hot (warm) liquids are always helpful when it comes to helping to soothe your sore throat. Be sure to take good care of yourself when you are run down, as some who get minor infections do not stop to heal and then wind up with even more serious infections. Stopping to heal yourself from something minor is much easier and preferable. So bundle up and get a nice cup of hot tea and let’s hope that sore throat feels better!
