Today there are various social and mental organizations that are trying to work in a better way to overcome various mental problems like bipolar depression and major depressive disorder.

There are many patients across the globe that suffers from bipolar depression and therefore to help these patients AstraZeneca has decided to go one step further with their new innovative campaign. AstraZeneca has now partnered with Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) to come up with their new campaign known as Speak and Be Heard Living with Depression where depression patients are treated in a different way.

The Living with Depression campaign started a few years ago when AstraZeneca decided to do something different from treating bipolar depression patients. Hence, they decided that they would allow communication between different bipolar depression patients rather than using some experts.

This campaign allows patients to write down their positive feelings and mindset of how to overcome their depression problems through songs, poetries, essays and even videos. This is really helpful to those patients who are struggling to cope up with their depression problems. Patients who are doing better at handling and overcoming their depression become the role models for other patients from whom they learn more and share more personal experiences.

Teen age is one of the most important phases of life in many respects. Most of the human habits develop in this age, and most of the physical changes occur in the same period. It means that this phase of life is important for a human, for both, mental and physical growth.

Coming out of childhood, stepping into adolescence, is a period containing a lot of mysteries for a young child. He is unaware of many a things, and is anxious for trying them out resulting in a number of diseases and mishaps. These diseases range from car accidents, pregnancy complications, sexually transmitted diseases, to cancer and other various health problems linked to smoking, alcohol and other kinds of addictions e.t.c.

The knowledge about different queries that arise in the mind of an adolescent is a must to be given. A doctor can be the best guide to provide the knowledge about his future health concerns. Dr. Frank Biro, participant of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s adolescent medicine program, said, “They are quite literally our future. If we don’t take good care of them, there’s a strong likelihood when they are running the ship they’re not going to have a good time running the ship.”

But sadly enough, there are not enough doctors trained for adolescent care. From 1996 to 2005, only a few doctors took such training.

According to a report, 10 to 20 percent of the teenagers become mentally ill each year, confronting depression and anxiety, go without seeking treatment. An air of trust between a doctor and a patient is must, and a teenager specially, as it will encourage him to go for counseling and preventing himself from the upcoming health threats.

There are an increasing number of people who are looking for acne treatments that work. Acne has become a common problem and that’s why different magazines and internet are replete with acne treatment reviews and other such sort of stuff. But most of the time, it has been observed that a lot of people rely of prescription medication like accutane when it’s about treating different kinds of acne.

Though the drug has proved quite effective to treat acne, there are many potential side effects of taking this treatment. Some studies suggest that the drug can become the cause of severe forms of depression including suicidal tendencies. Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy become the cause of acne in many women, but accutane treatment can’t be used in pregnancy. If it is used during pregnancy, it may cause birth defects in infants.

There are also some benefits of using accutane acne treatment and these benefits definitely deserve some attention as well. This acne treatment is considered quite effective in regulating the sebaceous glands and makes them produce lesser amount of sebum and oil. It’s not only appear to treat acne properly, but it also helps to heal the appearance of scars and preventing the recurrence of acne, but the treatment is needed to use for a prolong time to achieve the desired results.

Aside from acne, it can also be used to treat many other chronic skin diseases.

These are some potential advantages and disadvantages of using Accutane, but before opting for this or any other skin treatment, it’s best to consult your dermatologist.

There are many contributing factors in these increasing number of acne sufferers that include unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet, environmental pollution etc. One can avoid acne if one opts for a healthy lifestyle and consume healthy diets rich in vitamins and minerals.

Drug rehabilitation (also called drug rehab) awareness is spreading day by day; internet is kept on informing people about right person and right place for drug addiction treatment. With the irresistible growth in substance abuse in today’s society, drug rehabs have become the only shelter for people harassed with addiction from all walks of life. With the development in the field of medical science and psychiatry, potent methods of treatment have been developed, keeping in view the needs of an individual. Finding treatment is no longer a matter of locating the center and checking in.

Concept of drug rehab

To initiate the process of finding the apt addiction treatment, first you should understand what drug rehab is and how it works. The term “drug rehab” is identical with different kinds of term such as addiction treatment, treatment program, alcoholism treatment, alcohol rehabs and drug rehabilitation. Though rehab centers deal almost all kind of addiction such as alcoholism, drugs, sex addiction, gambling addiction, eating disorders, or internet addiction but whatever is the type of addiction, it is dangerous by all means as it make life out of control.

Types of drug rehab program

Addiction is a complicated disease likewise treatments of addiction are complex too. Since the addiction treatment field is very diverse, constant changes are brought forth to coup all kind of complex diseases. The complication of addiction rise from the fact, that each substance has different effect on individual’s brain and behaviors. These effects become worse when there are co-occurring mental health issues involved such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, manic disorders and a variety of other mental health issues. There are some most famous types of rehab programs available.

Inpatient Rehab

Long-Term Inpatient Rehab

Day Treatment Rehab

Outpatient Rehab

Psychological drug dependency, in drug rehab programs is tackled by attempting to teach the patient new methods of interacting in a drug-free environment. In particular, patients are generally provoked to leave such friends who still use the addictive substance. Drug rehab programs encourage addicts not only to stop using alcohol or other addictive substances, but to examine and change habits related to their addictions.

People who lose their jobs due to health reasons are more likely to suffer through phases of depression and detrimental health outcomes in comparison to those people who lose their jobs for reasons not related with health.

A recently concluded research study established these results with significant supportive evidences. The study also indicated that people who get reemployed immediately after losing their job show better health outcomes compared to the people who remain unemployed for a considerable time period.

Sarah Burgard, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Institute for Social Research and the School of Public Health said, “Re-employment appears to be the key factor for mitigating these health effects for people who lose their jobs either for health-related reasons or other reasons”.

Findings of this study help establishing a direct link between involuntary job loss and health consequences. However, the analyses do not explain about an employee’s pre-existing health or other related factors including socioeconomic background.

Researchers observed that the people who have lost their jobs and want to get back to work should possibly be extended assistance with an interim health insurance coverage, unemployment benefits, and re-employment programs. This must be an urgent requirement in cases of people having health problems that resulted in the loss of their jobs. However, “these traditional employment benefits were designed to meet the needs of workers in standard full-time jobs”, say the researchers.

Researchers also observed that jobs like part-time, temporary or short-term service industry jobs are fast replacing the traditionally established trends of full-time jobs in the manufacturing and other industries. These new generation jobs do not have normal health insurance coverage or unemployment insurance coverage. Meaning thereby, people working as part-time or with other contractual agreements are likely to face big challenges when it comes to re-employment.

Research findings indicate towards an emerging trend of non-standard contractual employment and this require a social and economic re-structuring of health insurance, unemployment benefits, and re-employment programs to meet the needs of a growing workforce.

This research study was conducted jointly by Sarah Burgard, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Institute for Social Research and the School of Public Health , James House, Professor at the U-M Institute for Social Research, the Ford School of Public Policy and the Sociology Department, and Jennie Brand, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Findings of this research study have been published in the “Journal of Health and Social Behavior”.

Sarah Burgard and her co-researchers explored if involuntary job loss caused the health decline, or if pre-existing poor health or an acute negative health shock caused the job loss.

A recent research study conducted at the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan revealed this fact immediately after the satisfactory tests and trials. This study was conducted under the leadership and supervision of the lead researcher Wei-Jen Yao and his colleague researchers.

The research findings reveal that the “Hypofrontality” is a medical term that indicates reduced blood flow and metabolism in the prefrontal cortex. Hypofrontality has consistently been associated with major depression and typically normalizes following recovery.

During this study, the Taiwanese research team used ‘single-photon-emission computed tomography (SPECT)’ to investigate hypofrontality in 20 untreated postmenopausal women. All of these untreated postmenopausal women patients had developed depression within a decade of menopause.

Researchers then compiled all the data and conducted a ‘Baseline Assessment’ that revealed no association between frontal CBF and the severity of depressive symptoms.
Wei-Jen Yao at the “National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan along with the colleague research scientists also observed that during the Wisconsin card-sorting test, which measures cognitive function, scores were lower in women with more severe depression.

Furthermore the study also outlines the facts that the change in CBF during the test inversely correlated with depression severity and positively correlated with scores on the mini-mental state examination, which also assesses cognitive function.

Researchers also observe that taken together, these results indicate that postmenopausal women with moderate or severe depression exhibit ‘hypofrontality’ and that this abnormality is related to impaired cognitive function.

“The combination of the functional activation test and SPECT imaging powerfully revealed this functional disease, which remains undetectably using more common baseline measurements”, says Wei-Jen Yao at the “National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
