Minister of foreign affairs Mr. Balaji Sadasivan, showed its concern about vaccine used to immune girls against human pappilloma virus (HPV) which is the leading cause of the cervical cancer.

Individual parents can make their decision to vaccinate their daughters but the government should be more restrict and will decide the inclusion of vaccine in the childhood immunization program after reviewing the safety profile of vaccine.

Sadasivan, former health minister stated, “we don’t know whether vaccine have long-lasting effects or not. We also can’t say for sure that any other HPV strain will dominate in the future if we control the present.”

This vast immunization program can also spread the message that safe sex among youngsters had been ignored. “It’s not the matter of right or wrong but its only for the benefit of the state.”

The safety issue was raised when two Spanish teenager girls hospitalized after receiving the shots of HPV vaccine. Health authorities rolled back all the HPV vaccines from market after that particular event.

According to the recent data, cervical cancer, after breast cancer, has become the second most leading cancer among women of Asia-Pacific.

A new research links the modest use of alcohol to increase the threat of some cancers. British researchers evaluated the data of the drinking habits of adult women at breast cancer screening clinics.

To root out the relation between alcohol and cancer, they analyzed their past health record of seven years.

The researchers put the lightest drinkers and the women who drank more side by side and concluded that every extra drink per day amplified the threat of cancers like rectal, breast and liver cancer.

In this regard, all the brands of alcohol have the same effects.

It complements the old research but is unable to answer whether the usage of alcohol triggered the esophageal and oral cancers in smokers only or it had the same tendency to effect who did not smoke. And also the one which said that the modest drinkers had a lower ratio to develop thyroid and renal cancers in addition hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The study concluded that an average woman is usually at a lower risk of using alcohol but those who have the tendency of developing cancers, every extra drink increases the danger of breast cancer along with four other types of cancers in them.

Although the new research does not said anything on these concepts, it raises the issue of save levels of alcohol consumption that is already drawn by U. S health guidelines – one drink for women and two drinks for men on the basis of difference in their metabolic system. But the research is significant to aware the people to seek advice on the different risk factors from their physician.

Canadian researchers have developed a new tool that will help evaluating the interaction of various proteins in cancer can help predicting the chances of patient survival. The study was lead by Dr. Jeff Wrana of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, published in Nature Biotechnology online this week.

This will be helpful to trigger the right treatment right from the time of evaluation. The researchers used the protein network of about 350 women in USA and Europe.

Protein network is an important chemical compound in cellular processes. It was found that the survivors had a different organization of protein network comparing to the dead ones.

In the research they successfully concluded the accurate predictions of 82 percent patients by tracking their protein network. Dr. Jeff Wrana said, “We approached cancer as a problem in how proteins communicate with each other — or how proteins interact with each other in networks.”

He further added, “It could help to direct the appropriate therapies for individual patients”. He and his team observed about 30, 000 protein interactions which involved about 8,000 proteins.

He also said, “We really want to take each persons tumour as an individual disease and apply individualized therapy to those patients and thereby get much better and more effective outcomes.”

It is said that the technology will be provided for clinical use within 5 years.
