i have a problem with my hands; basically whenever they are at rest for any length of time they just seize up; this is worse the longer the period of rest so overnight is a real problem. its not just within the joints of the fingers its the whole hand & there is no obvious pain most of the time; but obviously first thing in morning when they’ve been still for a long time the stiffness is so bad that it does hurt to get them moving again. there is no swelling, either in the knuckles/joints or anywhere else for that matter. this has been a problem for more than 6 months now & is gradually getting worse. ive taken Glucosamine for longer than that, doesnt appear to have any benefit.

Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by morning stiffness that eases upon movement and affects both hands, particularly the joints. RA is a possible cause of what you are experiencing and this may still be in the early stages. A doctor may be able to confirm this diagnosis with certain blood tests, although these may not always be positive despite the disease existing. Of course there are other possible causes for stiffness and what you are describing could be contractures. However, RA is much more common.

You need to see your doctor as soon as possible and get a referral to a specialist like an orthopedist or rheumatologist, depending on which you doctor feels is necessary. The fact that it is getting worse indicates that the condition is progressing. You are losing on vital time in the early stages by trying to self-medicate with nutritional products and seeking answers online. This can ultimately impact on the long term management and contribute to complications which can severely impair your level of functioning. Medical attention is necessary ASAP.
