I had the stomach flu on Tuesday and now I’m experiencing pain behind my sternum, what could this be?

It may be esophagitis where the esophagus is inflamed after repeated bouts of vomiting. This does cause pain behind the sternum (retrosternal. The irritation is a result of the stomach acid entering the esophagus as well as the violent muscle contractions that occur with vomiting. This should be investigated by a doctor because there is also a possibility of a tear (Mallory-Weiss tear) due to the vomiting. There could be other less common complications possibly related to the stomach flu.
