im female 37 diagnosed pancreatic cyst, not alcohol or gallstone related as not heavy alcohol drinker and theres no gallstones. is this serious and should i be concerned? i do have upper abdominal pain quite often and it was found when i got an ultrasound scan.

    It depends on the type of pancreatic cyst that was detected. Very rarely is a pancreatic cyst cancerous and most are fairly harmless. It may occur after bouts of pancreatitis that may be unrelated to gallstones or alcohol abuse. Blunt trauma, autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease and von Hippel-Lindau disease may also cause pancreatic cysts. Your doctor will need to investigate further and will then be in a better position to tell you more about the possible complications and so on.
