The health of thousand of U.K children can be affected because of ear infections, in the future because they are not getting the right treatment, a charity said.
The antibiotics are given to the children on the regular basis but unfortunately drugs are not working.
Previous studies have shown that the regular ear infections may cause developmental problems in the long run and most of the parents are unaware of what they can possibly do. So the RNID recommends it is good to consult a local general practitioner about the recurrence infection.
According to a report 200,000 children suffer from repeated infection of otitis media each year. Dr Ian Williamson said, majority of general practitioners are making an extensive use of antibiotics to treat middle ear infection. Ear problem and the underlying cause are not necessarily best handled with the antibiotics.
Dr Williamson wants some innovative steps for the quicker treatment. These include the insertion of tubes that drain out the fluid that accumulate in the middle ear.
If other techniques are not practiced then these kids can develop the language problem due to impaired hearing.
Vivienne Michael said “another problem is that the parents have the very limited knowledge about the action they should have to make while their child has repeated ear problem. There is a need to teach parents that antibiotics partially cure the infection and are not totally recommended in the otitis media.”
