Majority of the young Americans have the knowledge about trans fat and its effects on health but few people knows what kind of food they have to abstain from, to limit trans fats, a new study reported. Fuzzy
Researchers code the reference of 2007 survey in which 92 percent of the people said that, they were aware of the trans fats and also know that it can create the cardiovascular condition.
But when asked to point out three diets that contain trans fats, only twenty one person were able to answer that, though there was little improvement in comparison with 2006 study, when only 17 percent were able to answer that question.
From these findings researcher Dr. Robert H. Eckel concluded that, undoubtedly the media and health campaigns have impact on the people but still there is a huge gape to cover.
The worst effect of the trans fats is not only the increase in the LDL cholesterol also known as “bad cholesterol”, it also greatly reduce the level of HDL cholesterol that are good cholesterol of our body.
During the hydrogenation of the vegetable oil in the presence of nickel trans fats are formed. Foods that contain the partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, contains the trans fats. Use of such fat is common in the baked and fried products which include french fries, crackers and cookies.
“It’s important for people to read the product information on Nutrition Facts panel, even those labeled trans-fat-free. Such products may still contain sufficient saturated fat.” the researchers said.
