Inflammation in the intestine, like any part of the body, can arise for a number of reasons. It may be due to an infection, trauma (mechanical, chemical), autoimmune disorders and so on. With inflammatory bowel disease, it appears that the condition may be due to autoimmune factors. This means that your body’s own immune system is ‘attacking’ the lining of your intestines.
