It is been the plea of many people with pre-existing conditions to find the right insurance policy that would cover their medical expenses. Same is the case of 19 year old Stuart Wald.
Though it is not sure whether Wald will grow out of his bipolar disease, schizophrenia and attention-deficit disorder but it’s sure that he will grow out of health insurance coverage that he has obtained through his dad’s employer and that day is not very far away. The parents of Stuart Wald, though not his real name, are sure that Stuart will not get health insurance coverage on his own because the guy has three pre-existing conditions.
They are also worried about the fact that without a proper coverage, they would need to spend more than thousand dollars per month for Stuart’s treatment and care. This has lead them to find an insurance premium on individual market.Even the “Empowered Patient” inbox at CNN is filled with queries from many people with pre-existing condition searching for the correct individual insurance.
The company also feels that this type of query is the most common topic compared to others. Nathan, Wald, father of Stuart, also wrote to CNN asking for a remedy to their problem. According to a study at Kaiser Family Foundation, almost 21 percent of the people who apply for a insurance coverage for their medical needs are turned down, get charged at a higher price or they have been offered a plan that excludes coverage if they have any pre-existing conditions.
Good news to these people with pre-existing conditions as the health care reform is on the move now and President Obama in his plan as announced that the health care costs will be lowered by the insurance companies in an effort to make more people take insurance coverage. Having said all these, it is clear that finding individual health coverage insurance is not that easy but at the same time it is not that difficult too. Some of the steps to get this are,
1. Try to become a group of one
2. Get CORBA, if you had been laid off
3. Don’t forget to apply for a new insurance within 63 days if your employer-related insurance is lost
4. Check whether your state has some high-risk pool
5. Check with you professional organization whether it offers a group insurance.
