After wiping from a bowelmovement…..dark red blood with mucus was on toilet paper???? Should I be concerned??? Ive had bright red blood droplets..quite a bit before and was told by my doctor its from my hemmoroids….now its dark red and in mucus when wiping after a bowel movement…none in the stool in toilet….should I be concerned????

    You should have this check up properly. Bright red and even darker red blood is indicative of bleeding in the lower gut. Bleeding higher up would not be so clearly evident and instead the stool will look black and tarry. Yes, hemorrhoids can cause this and is the most common cause of blood (dark or bright red) particularly upon wiping. Mucus may also arise with inflammation of the rectum and anus. However, it is important to see a doctor and have a colonoscopy to exclude other diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that may also cause bleeding and mucus.
