With the improvement in child health sector, negligible amounts of children now have high lead level than the number of children who were born 20 years ago. A testimony revels, after the effort to make the soil, water and paint lead free.
Lead is known to interfere with the brain development and may cause the behavior and memory problems. Children, who live in the poor or industrial area have the more risk of high lead level in their blood.
According to the official announcement, just 1.4 percent children, in 2004, had the increased risk of high lead level in comparison with the nine percent of 1988.
“The decline is remarkable. Its must be recognized as public health success story,” Mary Jean Brown said.
The 84 percent decline was seen with the reduction of lead use in the gasoline in late 70s. Researchers appreciate the efforts to be continued to minimize the children exposure to the lead.
“We are aimed to make lead free life of every single American child. It’s good that their number is decreasing but still there are so many poisoned children,” Researcher Cox said
Children belong to the poor families also had higher level of lead in blood than the children of wealthier families.
“Although the lead level has greatly reduced in the children yet, more aggressive reforms are needed to improve the present condition according to the findings,” Dr. Bruce Lanphear said.
House paint that contain lead can contaminate the water and soil of the house, mostly children expose to this soil, water and certain folk medicines.
