Early days of pregnancy are extremely important in fetal metamorphosis, but many women fail to recognize pregnancy in very early days and may stick to unhealthy habits like drinking and smoking. To create awareness about early pregnancy among women is essential for fetal health, lead researcher Dr. Mary D. Nettleman said.

Health campaigns used to concentrate on maternal health after the recognition of the pregnancy and no one focus on the time between conception and confirmation of pregnancy.

To prove this phenomenon either pregnancy test on hand helps or not, researchers sent pregnancy test kits to198 women, in the mail. They also sent three pregnancy test strips and guidelines to get more strips.

A comprehensive note about the importance of preconception health, home pregnancy test use and pregnancy planning was also delivered to the all participants.

Participants were neither using birth control nor trying to get pregnant. After six months the average pregnancy rate was 1.2 times in the controlled group, while the rate was 2.3 times in the uncontrolled group.

The women of uncontrolled group were at high risk of delayed detection of pregnancy, researchers noted. When a woman comes to know that she is pregnant, she should adopt a healthier lifestyle

“This is a strong psychological stimulus. My purpose is to initiate that stimulus as early as possible. Woman of childbearing age should keep a pregnancy test kit around,” she advised,

In more than twenty five percent cases of childbirth, researchers didn’t find a good medical or other reason for the unnecessarily induction.

Experts said there is a need of more research to evaluate whether artificial inductions are being done without any good reason.

In the UK, the widely method practiced for the induction is the use of a gel containing prostaglandins (PGE2) to start uterus contraction and initiate the labor pains.

Medical reasons, in which induction is recommended, include over 41 weeks pregnancy, waters breaking but without labor or pre-planned timing of labor due to some complications. Superfluous.

Induction rates are increasing in the UK – especially in Scotland – but there is not even a single clarification for the figures evaluated form audit, the researchers said.

While reviewing the data of Aberdeen Maternity and Neonatal databank on childbirths between 1999 and 2003, they came to know that 32 percent of women had been induced.

Out of them, just four percent have the good reason for induction while 28 percent of cases remained unexplained.

“I was not expecting such figure that could not be explained, I’m sure there are features that are not compiled, but we were astonished that it was as high as it was,” said study leader Tracy Humphrey.

She added: “The main focus of unnecessary interventions was on C-sections and we have neglected the other interventions that go on. If a considerable number of inductions were being done without reason, it was a serious issue which must be tackled.

Women of underdeveloped countries die during childbirth 300 times more than the women live in the rich countries, UNICEF said in a press release.

“They divide between industrialized countries and developing countries — particularly the least developed countries — is perhaps greater on maternal mortality than on any other issue,” the UN Children’s Fund said.

“No other mortality rate is so unequal,” it added.

The risk of a maternal death is one in seven women in Niger as compare to one in Iceland, the agency said in its report on the children around the globe, this year UNICEF focusing on maternal health and neonates.

Approximately, 1,500 women die during pregnancy or childbirth each day, which are more than half a million per year. The death ratio in Africa or Asia is 95 percent. India alone accounts for 22 percent of the global total.

25 percent of these women die from post-partum hemorrhage, 15 percent from bacterial or viral infections, thirteen percent after abortion anomalies, 12 percent die with eclampsia and eight percent from obstructed labor.

The maternal deaths greatly affect the mortality of children, especially during first 28 days, when infants are at greatest risk of diseases.

Babies, whose mother died after the six week of their birth, hardly survive till the second birthday than infants whose mother stay alive, the report said.

In severe conditions as in Afghanistan 75 percent newborn babies whose mother dies after delivering child, die within one month, it added.

UNICEF said that, 80 percent of maternal deaths are preventable if women had access to primary health care at that particular time.

During the whole duration of pregnancy, from the first week to the last, it’s important to take good care of yourself in order to maintain good health of your baby at the time of delivery. Even though, if you have gathered enough knowledge about pregnancy stages, you have to take some precautions and be ever-aware of how what you are going to do and does it cause any harm to your baby. Many women say they’ve never felt healthier than when they carried their children.

In the early days of prenatal care, you may get initial pregnancy signs such as morning sickness, nausea and tiredness. Your body will change internally as well as externally as your baby grows during the nine months of your pregnancy. In this time you need some extra calories from quality nutrition and some thongs to avoid which could affect your baby.

Folic acid

According to the research use of folic acid supplement, one month before pregnancy continued till the end of first trimester could decrease the risk of neural tube defect.

In the metamorphosis neural tube give rise to the nervous system of baby, any abnormality during the formation of neural tube can defect the nervous system of baby.

Iron

Iron is very essential for the expecting mother. As the growth of baby gets start the blood plasma level start to increase, in iron deficient women, red blood cell do not increase with the same rate and women become anemic. This put verse effect on the growth of the baby as it does not feed with the required food and oxygen.

Calcium

The average need of the calcium for a woman is 1g but unfortunately most of the women don’t consume the recommended amount. But during development, baby’s calcium demands are very high. Women should increase their calcium intake to prevent a loss of calcium from your own bones.

Fluids

Plenty of fluids are quite useful for the pregnant women, especially water. A woman’s blood volume increases significantly in pregnancy, and drinking enough may prevent mild problems including dehydration and constipation.

Things to avoid

There are lots of thing from which a pregnant women should abstain as these thing can severely affect baby. These include

Smoking

Drinking

Recreational drugs

Nicotine

Caffeine

Junk food

Over the counter prescribed drugs

The above mention factors are the main causes of prematurity, poor growth, jaundice and severe eye and brain damage.
