The surgery is being considered the first of its kind.

Surgeons have succeeded to fit two new appendages to a German farmer who had lost both his arms in an accident. According to doctors, it is the first complete double arm transplant.

Medical director of the Munich University Clinic, Reiner Gradinger told that it took 15 hours to surgeons to graft two limbs onto the body of a 54-year-old German farmer who had lost both his arms in an accident six years ago.

“The reattachment is quite successful and the patient is recovering well,” Gradinger added.

Keith Rigg who is vice president of the British Transplantation Society told in an interview to The Associated Press in London that he believes this surgery of double arm transplant was the first of its kind in the world.

Kidney patients are less likely to get the suggested medications after undergoing heart attack, a new study suggests.

According to this report that will be published in the September issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology  demonstrates that dialysis are required to end-stage renal disease patients and they are not given heart-saving medicines like beta blockers and other cholesterol-lowering medicines.

“Kidney disease is considered an established risk factor for heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases and it also serves as an indicator for such events” stated Wolfgang C. Winkelmayer, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston in a news release.

New York food chains post calorie info on their menus

At last customers would find facts about their meal choices at different big fast-food chains in New York City. Big Mac+ medium fries+ medium soda= 1, 1 30 calories and yeah these facts would be hard to swallow for some.

The city’s chain restaurants resisted for months against this first-of-its-kind rule but now they are willing to post calorie counts on their menus.

New menu boards, at different locations in the city, have been unveiled by McDonald’s and Burger King.

Human skulls appear same for everyone but the skulls of women is thicker compared to the skulls of the men. Although both, women’s skulls and men’s skulls, have a slower shrinking rate after reaching the adulthood stage.

A recent research study findings with these conclusions have been published in the “Inderscience International Journal of Vehicle Safety”. This study was performed over 3000 people in all.

Scientists in the United States have been successful in making a real beating heart in the laboratory for the first time. It was made possible by using heart tissue from dead rats and pigs. Scientists created a working framework and seeded this it with the live cells.

The miracle innovation was concluded by the scientists at the University of Minnesota. This research now has been published in the online issue of the “Nature Medicine” on January 13th.

Self-measurement of ‘Blood Pressure’ (BP) leads to less use of anti-hypertensive drugs but worse blood pressure control based on ambulatory measurements, a randomized controlled trial research study has recently concluded.

These findings of the research study were published in the current issue of the journal “Hypertension”. This research included controlled trials and come from the ‘Home versus Office Measurement’. This study also included the ‘Reduction of Unnecessary Treatment Study (HOMERUS)’, a multicenter prospective double-blind trial.

Schizophrenia patients appear to have “normal” responses to emotional stimuli. Recent researches have now established that deficits in emotional functioning associated with the ‘Schizophrenic disorder’ may involve the integration of emotion and cognition for adaptive functioning.

It is now an established fact that one of the major causes of persistent functional disability in schizophrenia is emotional functioning disturbance. But it is not clear which specific aspects of emotional functioning are impaired in patients with the condition.

Hypertension and High Blood Pressure are two diseases that reduce blood flow in the brains of the adults who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Hypertension conditions make the blood circulate through arteries with extreme thrust. Though hypertension is not a direct cause of Alzheimer’s disease but it hits on the brain and thus enhances the vulnerability to several effects of the disease.

A recently concluded Swedish research suggests that the women who are suffering through a history of psychiatric disorders should undergo careful clinical risk assessment for postpartum psychosis.

The Swedish researchers obtained such evidences that de-destabilize the existing premise that obstetric variables are of only minor importance.
