Health Benefits of Cheese

The term cheese is used to indicate a diverse range of milk based food products that are prepared using milk from cows, goats, buffalo or sheep. All across the world, cheese is produced in a variety of flavors, forms and textures. A variety of herbs and spices as well as wood smoke are used as flavoring agents while preparing cheese.

Cheese can be prepared from low fat, whole of skimmed milk or even combinations of these and is a great source of phosphorus, proteins, calcium and fat. Though it is true that cheese can be fattening, it does have a lot of benefits. Essentially cheese contains all the nutritional benefits of milk and given below are some of the health benefits of cheese.

Excellent source of protein

One of the main benefits of cheese is that it is an excellent source of protein. In fact the protein in cheese is of the best quality and it contains all the basic essential amino acids that a human body requires for maintenance of muscles as well as for optimum growth. The protein content in different types of cheese usually varies between 20 to 35 percent.

Excellent source of calcium

One of the other cheese health benefits is that it is an excellent source of calcium, which makes it great for your teeth and bones. Cheese is also known to stimulate the salivary glands to secrete saliva that helps clean the mouth by washing away sugars and acids and it is also known to reduce plaque. Calcium is also essential for strengthening your bones and prevents osteoporosis, a condition that is caused mainly due to the deficiency of calcium, which causes the bone density to fall. Thus this is one another major cheese health benefits. So for healthy teeth and bones just remember that you will have to include low fat cheese to your diet!

Excellent for women in general

Women seem to enjoy the health benefits of cheese whether they are pregnant or just suffering from PMS. It is a known fact that food that is rich in calcium is great for expecting women. One of the benefits of cheese is that it helps simulate contractions during labor and also helps produce milk in the mother’s body. However despite the cheese health benefits, pregnant women are advised to choose the right type of cheese and avoid blue veined cheese, mould ripened cheese and soft cheese as these types of cheese allows bacterial growth and this could harm the fetus. Other benefits of cheese also include reducing or even preventing some of the symptoms that are associated with PMS.

Excellent source of vitamins and minerals

Apart from calcium, cheese is also an excellent source of other minerals and vitamins which is also another health benefits of cheese. Cheese contains plenty of vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin B2 and vitamin b12 and vitamin D. Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin and eyes. Vitamin B is known to aid in proper absorption and distribution of the calcium present in cheese. Vitamin B is also good for men, women and children of all age group as it helps form and strengthens bones and cartilage. Vitamin B12 is known to prevent pernicious anemia. Apart from these vitamins, cheese is also a good source of other minerals such as phosphorus, zinc, iodine, magnesium and sodium.

Apart from these cheese health benefits, cheese is also known to prevent cancer, boost your immune system and lower your blood pressure. However always remember to consume cheese along with other healthy food items and make sure you only have low fat cheese to make the most of cheese health benefits.

Dangers of steroids are many and mostly teenagers fall prey to its use in various loopholes that advertisements bring along into our daily experience. It has been reported that almost half a million teenagers in US have been falling prey to drug abuse in order to bring some kind of enhancement in their bodies and physical looks. There are no limits to drugs these days but then there are coaches to use through limited viewing or lessening the form of finding ways to bring a healthier balance to steroid use and staying healthy with health and wellness portal. This is one of the ways through which many young athletes have been depleting their health with the random and prolific use of unlimited drugs.

There is a report of about 1/3rd of teenage girls using steroids and there have been many more guys overall who have fall victim to the lure of drug use in demand for greater power. There are definitely ways of steroid use but there are also strong and prolific circulations of materials that now teach how incessant drug use causes different forms of reactions in drug use. Both genders of young age now fall rapid victim to drug and steroid abuse. Teens have been using steroids for long and there are definitely long term health issues coming through that. There is a tendency of stunted growth, breast augmentation, assorted hormonal reactions including changes in the body which are not rather fruitful and many such damages including dysfunction of the liver, depression, etc.

Dick Butkus, a pro footballer, has now been up front about raising awareness about how the latest campaigns about drug use and abuse over the young minds. He has been working in raising awareness about playing it clean and how temporary augmentation goes onto create some serious life challenges in life soon. Students are encourages to stay cleaner and take a cleaner route to health which is definitely better and brings less challenges to health as one goes older.

For the success of your surgery, you should follow the diet guidelines provided by your surgeon. This is always appreciated to discuss all the matters with your doctor. These dietary guidelines are very significant for the quick recovery and making your weight loss surgery successful.

You should not drink water more than a sip or just suck ice to fulfill your thrust as you cannot let your small lap-banded pouch stomach expand right after the surgery. Too much intake of any liquid will start the anti-peristaltic movements and you will vomit that will increase the chances of slipping of stomach tissues through the band.

You can drink more after one or two days of the surgery but it is recommended to take small amount of liquids with regular intervals. After one day of the surgery you can switch to other liquids with sufficient amount of calories to feed your body but always keep in mind that the quantity should not be high to avoid nausea and vomiting.

In the next phase, after one week or two of the surgery, you can drink liquids or even semi liquids such as broth or soup, fresh fruit juices and skimmed milk. Always drink small portions of water in intervals to avoid dehydration.

You can visit lap band blog, incase you need more information about the laparoscopic obesity surgery. After the four weeks of laparoscopic surgery you would be able to consume blended food. Proteinaceous foods followed by vegetables food are most recommended. This will supply your body with all essential and most needed vitamins by your body.

After the six weeks of surgery you can eat the regular food but always eat small quantity and chew well before swallowing. Your new stomach can almost hold quarter cup of food and stop eating as soon as you feel full.

Researchers have founded the link between Vitamin D deficiency and hypertension or hyperglycemia, which are the alarming signs of early health issues.

Our skin makes the Vitamin D in the presence of sunlight which is essential for our bones, but most modern studies have also associated Vitamin D with many other health benefits. This specific study founded the link between vitamin deficiency and high risk of heart diseases.

The participating teens in this study showed high risk of hypertension and high blood sugar due to the lack of Vitamin D. They were also more likely to develop metabolic syndrome, these three reasons are the major contributing factor to diabetes and heart diseases.

“More research is necessary to confirm that whether Vitamin D is really behind these health conditions and its intake wards off these conditions. Study have shown strong relationship that needs to be followed,” the study’s leader, Jared Reis said.

Normally, 15 minute exposure to ultraviolet rays of sunlight, several times a week is enough for the requirement of body. We can also find it in the milk and salmon.

In recent times, the American Academy of Pediatrics has two folded the amount of Vitamin D intake, in teen and children, almost 400 unite each day. This amount is equal to the amount attained by the four cups of milk.

“In the teens and children, deficiency of Vitamin D usually occurs due to the unhealthy diet and lack of outdoor sports or activities. If their diet consists of fries and beverages the might get the Vitamin deficiency,” Dr. Randal Thomas, director of the cardiovascular health said.

In their experience on lab mice, the researchers found a protein that seems to extend retinal cells lives in diseased and healthy eyes.

These findings may prove quite effective for the treatments that help to avoid blindness in people who are genetically inclined to get retinal disease.

Histone deacetylase 4 or HDAC4 is a protein that produced naturally by humans as well as mice. In general, this hormone has involvement in bone and muscle development regulation.

The study showed that the decrease in the levels of HDAC4 can become the cause of premature light-sensitive cell’s death in the eyes. And contrarily, if the quantities of this protein are increased from normal levels, it may help to boost the lifespan of important vision cells.

If the finding is replicated in humans, it may help to find new interventions in preventing disease driven blindness or to develop new methods for restoring sight in diseased retina.

Bo Chen, who authored the study, says in a news release: “Some innate genetic defects become the cause of two kinds of light-sensitive or photoreceptor cells that help to hold light in the eye. The mutation in genes also becomes the cause of total blindness.”

“But the good thing is that, we can promote the lifespan of these affected photoreceptors cells with the help of this specific type of protein.” Chen adds.

The study is being published in the journal Science Jan.9 issue.

Many bone health are referring to a recent study of more than 5,200 female U.S Navy recruits to illustrate that point. The results of the study show that women who don not take additional calcium and vitamin D are around 25 percent more likely to have a stress fracture than women who take these supplements.

Dr. Sabrina Strickland, who is an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, says: “When you increase your exercise levels and when you do a lot from doing nothing, it’s the most common time for a stress fracture.”

“Before starting any kind of exercise regimen, one should take calcium and vitamin D supplements to avoid stress fracture,” she added.

Usually when muscles get tired and can’t absorb shock properly, stress fractures occur and more than half of them occur in the lower leg.

Women have more chances to suffer stress fractures and especially those women who involve in just one specific sport like tennis, running, basketball or gymnastic.

Women can easily reduce the risk of developing hypertension and the blood pressure if they drink milk that is fat free along with consuming more calcium and vitamin-D from the food sources, not from additional supplements.

A recently concluded research study published in the American Heart Association’s journal “Hypertension”, revealed this fact. According to the findings of this study, diets of more than 30,000 examined for women who were actually middle-aged and older.

Researchers at the ‘Harvard University’ observed that women who consumed more fat-free milk or low-fat milk and other milk products along with the diets rich in calcium and vitamin-D had more protection against any risk of hypertension and blood pressure.

Examining the advantages of consuming milk alone, the researchers observed that if women drank two or more servings of low-fat or fat-free milk every day then the risk of hypertension or blood pressure was reduced by almost 10% while in case of women who drank such type of milk for less than even a month the rate was comparatively higher to suffer from such health problems. Researchers found that these results cannot be replicated when tried with high-fat milk, other high fat milk products, and calcium and vitamin-D supplements.

In America, almost one in every three adults suffers from high blood pressure. Women even do not know that they are suffering from hypertension and their number is growing very fast.

A Similar study, which has been published in the journal “Circulation”, established this fact. During the previous decade, the number of cases of high blood pressure and hypertension has reached up to uncontrollable limit in case of women in entire United States. This problem has posed a great risk for all these women for developing other cardiovascular diseases, strokes, and kidney failure also.

There have been several researchers and many other attempts have been implemented pertaining to the dietary changes for controlling the blood pressure but on an average, “Americans are still missing the mark on their diets”, research says.

A new research study published in the ‘Archives of Internal Medicine’ indicates that the Americans generally try to ignore the “DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet”. This “DASH-DIET” is a specific therapeutic eating plan recommended by the “National Heart Lung and Blood Institute” and it emphasizes on the intake of low-fat dairy, fruits and vegetables in order to bring down the levels of blood pressure.

Researchers also emphasized on linking the “DASH-DIET” with the low-fat or the fat-free milk for keeping the blood pressure under control. Because of this reason, the researchers say, the ‘U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans’ also impress upon drinking at least three glasses of low-fat or fat free milk every day. Three glasses of such type of milk is enriched with nine essential nutrients, including calcium, vitamin A, vitamin D, protein and potassium.

“Otoacoustic emissions” are sounds that are produced by healthy ears in response to an external sound stimulation. First described by Kemp in 1978, normal hearing is regulated by a cochlear mechanism, present in the healthy outer hair cell, which magnifies the stimulus internally.

There are certain soft sounds, which a normal ear would produce in the response of the sounds which travel in. OAE or “Otoacoustic emission” testing is the recording of these emissions. Such echoes are not produced by a deaf ear.

Within the past 25 years, there has been going on lot of research in the field of ‘Audiology’, the identification of these emissions is also one of them.

When a sound enters the ear canal, it travels in a forward direction, vibrating the ear drum, ‘ossicular chain’, organ of ‘Corti’ and outer hair cells generating the OAE. The OAE travels in a reverse direction. A new study is conducted by Karl Grosh, a professor in the ‘U-M Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering’ in association with associate professor Tianying Ren.

During the experiment conducted in Ren’s lab, they found that contrary to the popular belief, these emissions don’t leave the air in the same fashion they entered.

Former scientists had concluded that as the sound wave travels in the ear, it leads to a backward-traveling wave going along the structure of the cochlea in the same way.

However this new study added that the sound waves coming out don’t simply flow along the basilar membrane of the cochlea, but travel through the inner ear fluid.

The inner ear structure called the cochlea is a snail-shell like structure which is divided in half by the basilar membrane, creating two chambers which are filled of a fluid. Both these chambers play a role in transmission of pressure and detecting the pressure impulses and thereby respond with electrical impulses which travel along the auditory nerve to the brain.

For this experiment, the interferometer was used, a device which is used to detect waves and sound evidence of forward moving waves, however there was no sign of backward moving ones. They devised a new method to pick up the tiniest vibration which could be thousand times smaller than an atom’s diameter.

Now they would develop new tools to shed more light on hear lose. New findings have given an understanding how these emissions are produced, giving a new insight to find out what wrong happens in a deaf ear.

Further identification of the disease or pathology that causes hearing loss and the treatment and the rehabilitation would gather a new direction with this study.
