Baseball legend, Hank Aaron, had been struggling with osteoarthritis in the knee and trying to get back to form for a very long time. Knee osteoarthritis has been quite a problem for many and a challenge to deal with in every day living. Especially for sportsmen, this can be a great struggle that they face to make them come back to form. Hank Aaron had the similar kinds of problems that disabled him and put his career to stall. People struggling with knee diseases now have something to look forward to.

The whole team and the expert orthopedic tending to Aaron’s case, has now come up with the new campaign which Aaron is cheering forward. This campaign looks forward to heal osteoarthritis of the knees and brings forth the best out of people’s conditions. These happen to bring easy relief to people through their program. The program designed by Genzyme, the maker of the Synvisc-One (hylan G-F 20) is out there to bring the best for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. A sudden set back like this can happen to anyone’s lives and the new method of treatment in designed to bring some of the best solutions in terms of creating a solution oriented place to start from where one get from.

There are many Americans who are currently suffering from a disease like this. OA knee pain can be a very vulnerable position through which treatment can be hard to come. There are interestingly many ways through which any OA sufferer can help themselves by overcoming these forms of problems. Hank Aaron went through a stage where he had problem walking. He tried many options including treatments like cortisone injections as well as physical therapy. But all these could not come to bring him the kind of relief that he had been looking for. His OA knee pain could only be counteracted with the fresh kind of program that his team came up with.

When it comes to arthritis, it’s always a good idea to go for natural remedies, as they’re much safer than drugs. They’re effective, and they’re risk free – do you need any more reason? Plus, they leave you free of any pain whatsoever. However, the sad thing is that many doctors and specialists out there still feel that natural arthritis treatments are ineffective, and call them “hippie medicine”. But you would be surprised to know that there are many benefits of using natural remedies to cure your arthritis, after diagnosing arthritis Plus, the risk from chemical drugs is totally reduced.

Once you have your diagnosis clear, you can then decide whether you want natural treatment or chemical treatment. Be responsible for your own health, get the proper information, natural remedies always work best. Remember that the body has a tendency to tolerate natural substances better than conventional chemical drugs.

When it comes to osteoarthritis pain relief you should get yourself diagnosed properly. You will notice symptoms like swelling joins or pain, or even discomfort, after periods of inactivity. There are certain natural remedies you can try for osteoarthritis pain relief – like Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate (combined) – they reduce the pain. You can also take silicon, which strengthens the bones, and try to supplement your diet with oats, wholegrain cereals, root vegetables, etc. The main thing is to try natural remedies as they are much safer and much more reliable than their chemical counterparts.

A new study published this week found that even the smallest leg injuries put patients at risk for developing life threatening blood clots. Even the slightest sprained ankle or pulled muscle can be responsible for causing blood clots in leg veins. This came as a surprise for many researchers, who believe that this may be the number one unrecognized cause of blood clots.

The amount of time that the patient is at risk for developing a blood clot was quite long. The study found that the risk remains for at least ten weeks after the injury occurs. It is believed that this may be attributed to damage that is done to blood vessels in a sprain or pull that may go undetected. Another contributing risk factor is that patients with these injuries generally are less mobile while they recover, increasing the chances of developing a life threatening clot.

This massive study was conducted by Karlijn Van Stralen at the Leiden University Medical Center which is located in the Netherlands. Overall, more than 6000 people were studied. The first group was comprised of 2,471 patients who developed blood clots and 3,534 people who did not between the years of 1999 and 2004. It was found that of the people who did suffer from a blood clot during this time, 289 had indeed suffered a minor leg injury. This adds up to 11% of the total group.

Stralen stated in his report that, “Because minor injuries are common, they could be major contributors to the occurrence of venous thrombosis.” Currently, incidents of thrombosis are on the rise, particularly in the United States. At least one out of every thousand people develop serious blood clots in their legs. At times, this number increases to three out of every thousand people.

Blood clots are very serious and if left untreated can cause death by stroke. Commonly, a blood clot will break off and end up in the lungs where it blocks an artery, causing death. Air travel is the usual culprit implicated in venous thrombosis, but inactivity may also be a major contributing factor.

If you suffer a leg injury, make sure to discuss your risks with your doctor. They may recommend a blood thinning agent that will greatly reduce your risks of developing a clot during your healing period. If you are inactive or travel frequently, you may also want to discuss this potentially fatal problem with your doctor.

Arthritis is exploding in an aging population around the world and is projected to increase by 40% in the next two decades, according to a new study released by t he Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the National Arthritis Workgroup. The report reaffirms that nearly one in five U.S. adults, almost 46 million people, have arthritis and an estimated 67 million people will be affected by 2030.

Findings of this study, published in the January issue of” Arthritis and Rheumatism”, found that osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, has increased to 27 million people, up from 1990 estimates of 21 million. Other key findings include an increase in gout in almost 3 million adults, up from 2.1 million and a decrease in rheumatoid arthritis that came down from 2.1 million adults to 1.3 million. The study also estimates that 294,000 U.S. children and teenagers under age 18 have been diagnosed with arthritis or another rheumatologic condition.

“The prevalence of arthritis overall continues to grow in the United States, which is not surprising given that many of the specific conditions are age related and the general population is aging,” said Dr.Charles G.Helmick, a CDC Epidemiologist and a lead author on the study. “Increases in some of the more common types of arthritis suggest a growing impact on the health care and public health systems,” said Dr. Charles G.Helmick.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, the news isn’t good for the nation’s baby boomers or the economy. Already the most common cause of disability in the U.S., arthritis limits activity for 19 million of the 46 million U.S. adults with the disease. It also extracts a hefty financial toll on the country with $128 billion annually.

“Even as the number of people with arthritis rises, the level of federal funding for arthritis research has declined in today’s dollar and intervention programs that could limit the impact are being underutilized,” said Dr.John H. Klippel, MD, President and CEO, Arthritis Foundation. “We must reverse this trend to avoid a potential public health crisis”, says Dr.John H.Klippel.

The Arthritis Foundation is working to help address this ever-growing problem. The Arthritis Prevention, Control, and Cure Act proposes to strengthen arthritis public health initiatives, which would ensure that more people are diagnosed early and avoid pain and permanent disability. In addition, the Arthritis Foundation urges the public to take part in effective interventions and programs that could reduce the impact. These include getting educated about managing your arthritis through the Arthritis Foundation Self-Help Program, and getting more physically active through the Arthritis Foundation Exercise or Aquatics Programs.
